About the event
This walk explores the history of this well-known road in Tottenham. With trailblazers such as Dyke & Dryden’s beauty and hair products, to Bernie Grant MP, to Althea McNish, the names just drop out of the air. Heavily influenced by the large African and Caribbean population, most people are not aware of the famous people who have lived and made contributions to the area and to Black British history in general.
Starting at Costa Coffee and finishing at Black Boy Lane, this walk will take in some of the well-known shops such as Uncle John’s Bakery, the little-known Windrush monument, some of the 20 Black hair and beauty shops that line the street, and, not forgetting, the home of textile designer Althea McNish, the woman who designed for the Queen.
Choose the date most suitable to you. Space is limited so don't hesitate to book.
Why not come along to discover the places, names and shops that these trailblazers made famous.
